# Lost Ark honing success rates and costs

> Honing raises one piece of gear by one level per success. Every attempt has a success chance and costs materials and Gold; a failure raises the next chance and adds Artisan's Energy, and full Artisan's Energy makes the next attempt certain.

## Honing in the game

1. Talk to a **Gear Honing** **NPC** and choose **Gear Honing**.
2. **Gear Honing** opens once this is met: **The Way Forward quest in progress**.
3. In the window, choose the gear; it shows the success chance, the materials and **Gold** of one attempt, and the **Artisan's Energy** so far.
