Lost Ark honing success rate and cost per level

Every honing level of a Lost Ark gear piece has a base success rate, a bonus that each failed attempt adds up to a cap, and a fixed cost per attempt. On the Destined Tremor Greatsword, honing level 1 succeeds 60% of the time and level 25 succeeds 0.5% of the time. One attempt at level 25 costs 4,500 Destiny Crystallized Destruction Stones, 47 Great Destiny Leapstones, 50 Superior Abidos Fusion Materials, 42,000 Destiny Shards, 60,000 Silver and 10,700 Gold. The Gear Honing lists these numbers for every level of any gear piece, including levels and gear you do not own yet.

Find the gear piece

Type part of the item's name into the filter above the list. Each result shows the item level, the name in its grade colour and the classes that can equip it. Choose a result to open its honing ladder.

Gear pages in the database open the planner as well. The link on the Destined Tremor Greatsword page opens it with that greatsword already selected.

Read one honing level

The planner window has three columns. Your search results stay on the left, the selected honing level fills the centre, and the ladder on the right lists every level with the stats it adds. Selecting a rung on the ladder changes the centre column.

For level 1 of this greatsword the centre column shows these facts:

  • The step from Level 0 to Level 1 and the item level after a success, 1,680.
  • The base success rate of 60%.
  • The failure bonus. Each failed attempt adds 6%, up to 60%.
  • One attempt costs 440 Destiny Crystallized Destruction Stones, 8 Great Destiny Leapstones, 7 Superior Abidos Fusion Materials, 8,990 Destiny Shards, 20,000 Silver and 1,550 Gold.
  • The additional material. Each Lava's Breath adds 2.5%, up to 16 per attempt.
  • The Special Honing material, 30 Special Honing: Transferred Leapstone.

Higher levels

Success rates fall as the level rises, and costs climb. Level 10 of the greatsword succeeds 10% of the time and each failure adds 1%, up to 10%. At level 25 the rate is 0.5% and each failure adds 0.05%, up to 0.5%. An attempt at level 10 takes 1,490 stones and 3,250 Gold, and an attempt at level 25 takes 4,500 stones and 10,700 Gold.

Artisan's Energy and Special Honing

A failed attempt also fills Artisan's Energy. Each failure adds the attempt's success rate, failure bonus included, divided by 2.15, and a full bar makes the next attempt succeed. A success or a Transfer empties it. The honing plan below counts this, so a target level always has a worst case.

Special Honing consumes its own material in place of the usual materials and currencies. The failure bonus, Artisan's Energy and Stronghold research do not apply to it, and additional materials cannot be added.

Plan several pieces to a target

Choose Add to plan on any honing level and the piece joins the honing plan under the window, from the level before it to that level. Each piece keeps its own current level and target, and the All pieces row moves every piece at once. The plan is saved in your browser, follows you to another browser when you sign in, and Copy link shares it.

For each piece the plan shows the expected number of attempts. Under the pieces, one table adds up every material and currency the whole plan needs, in three columns: the expected amount, the amount if every attempt succeeds at once, and the amount if every attempt fails until Artisan's Energy guarantees the next one. The once-only cost of filling a level's Gear XP is counted once.

Honing plan with the Destined Tremor Greatsword from level 0 to 1 and the Destined Tremor Headpiece from level 3 to 4, and the materials both need

Taking the Destined Tremor Greatsword from level 0 to 1 takes 1.58 attempts on average and at most five, because the fifth attempt is guaranteed. The expected Gold is 2,453: 1,550 per attempt times the expected attempts. Adding the Destined Tremor Headpiece from level 3 to 4 brings the whole plan to 4,582 Gold expected, 2,600 at best and 14,050 at worst.

The plan covers ordinary honing without Special Honing, additional materials, research or event boosts. Advanced Honing is not part of it.
